Our adoption process is simple!
First, fill out our adoption application. Make sure it is filled out completely!
We will use the information provided for a quick background check. We do require all of our adopters to be Virginia residents.
Once we have approved your application, we will set up a meet-and-greet with the dog you are interested in, likely at our next adoption event (held on Saturdays from 12PM-4PM at our Adoption Center). Since our dogs stay in foster homes, we need time to coordinate with their foster families to ensure that they will be at the adoption event to meet you!
If your meet-and-greet goes well, we will have you complete our adoption contract and pay the adoption fee via cash or check. Our adoption fees are $350 for puppies (dogs under one year of age), $250 for adults, and $75 for seniors. Many of our dogs are ready to go home on the same day as your meet-and-greet! Please remember that you are required to have a leash and collar in order to bring your new family member home.
All of our dogs are spayed or neutered, brought up-to-date on vaccinations and heartworm testing, dewormed, and microchipped before going home with their new families.
Puppies adopted from our organization are required to attend puppy classes with a certified trainer within sixty days of adoption. You and your new pet will need time to develop a bond and to get to know each other, and puppy classes are a great way to do this! These classes will ensure that your puppy grows into a happy and healthy adult dog by helping you to enforce leadership and boundaries, as well as teaching your family how best to work with your next best friend.
Worried about how a new dog will do with your pets or your children, or just adjusting to a new home environment? We also have a foster-to-adopt program!
You will follow the same steps as for a standard adoption, but will pay your adoption fee in the form of a check for the full amount, postdated for a week in the future. From there, you can take your potential new family member home and make a decision about whether that dog is a good fit for your family and lifestyle. If you decide within the week that it is not a good match, you can return the dog to our organization and we will void your check. Please note that we will hold a dog's medical records until an adoption contract is returned to us and the adoption is completed.
Don’t delay - let us help you complete your family today!
