Senior Army Instructor Richard Roos is joined by Courtland High School students Michael Riddle, Elnathan Agdila, Nolan Banner, Blanche’ Garrett (Moca), Layla Algoo and Cadet Command Sargent Major Kyleigh Pinckney, who chose Old Dominion Humane Society (ODHS) to volunteer on Sunday, March 16. No job was too big for the students, including mopping floors, cleaning the outdoor play area for the rescues and washing windows. They ended the morning by visiting the puppy side to play with the youngest rescues. The students are part of the CHCORI Battalion Army JROTC unit, an organization stationed at the Spotsylvania Career and Technical Center comprised of cadets from Chancellor, Courtland and Riverbend high schools. CHCORI stands for Chancellor (CH), Courtland (CO) and Riverbend (RI).
Algoo planned the volunteer activity at ODHS because of her extensive online research about the nonprofit organization. “I loved what I learned about ODHS, from knowing it’s a no-kill shelter to the fun of the Puppy Parties organized by the volunteers,” she said. “I shared the information with Kayleigh Pinckney, and we organized the event.”
