It's A Difficult Choice

As much as we would rather help you keep your pet, we know that sometimes families are faced with tough decisions and need to consider rehoming.

Old Dominion Humane Society is a no-kill, volunteer-led, nonprofit dog rescue and, as such, have very limited space. If your family has made the difficult decision to surrender your dog and need help, please complete and submit the form below.

Please note that a $100 minimum donation for owner surrenders is required. Currently, we are only accepting surrender requests for dogs who were previously adopted from Old Dominion Humane Society.

If your dog was previously adopted from Old Dominion Humane Society, please send an email to adopt@olddominionhumanesociety.org. We will always take back our ODHS Alumni!

Behavioral Resources

Dogs are sometimes rehomed due to a behavioral issue that could have been resolved through training.

Seeking the guidance of a professional trainer is an alternative that you may want to consider. Several local trainers, including the ones listed below, are more than happy to help address your dog's behavioral challenges so that they are able to remain part of your family.
